Scope:

This specification covers a titanium alloy in the form of forgings under 4.0 inches (102 mm) in nominal cross-sectional thickness and of forging stock.

These forgings have been used typically for parts in high stress and stress-corrosion-resistant applications requiring higher fracture toughness and allowing lower tensile properties than AMS 4984 and AMS 4986, but usage is not limited to such applications.
